How to Train your new puppy!
Thank you for choosing our family to be your breeder. We are very happy to help you to train your new puppy that you have purchased from us.
Getting a new puppy can be very exciting. But he or she will require training if both are to enjoy each others company. We want you to get the most out of your new puppy and to really enjoy him/her. People always ask "At what age do I start to train my new puppy?" The answer is right away! It is never too early for your puppy to start learning. In fact they are like little sponges, they are looking to you for direction and wondering what is expected of them and how to act.
Cesar Milan is one of the world's best respected dog trainers. His methods are proven successful and will win the love and respect of your dog so you can enjoy a healthy and happy relationship with him/her for many years to come.
Some trainers used to believe that hitting a dog would win his obedience. Rather this method will only make your dog fearful of you and be afraid. You want your dog to love and respect you instead.
How do you achieve this? You need to communicate with your dog the way that he understands.
Hitting a dog is what cats and bears do, not other dogs. Your dog will never respond to this correction method in a positive way.
The other common mistake people make is giving their dog a treat every time they want their dog to listen to them. The problem with this method is you cant always have a cookie in your hand! How much better would it be if your dog obeyed you because you ask him to. You will find that your dog will respond much better to reward than punishment. Reward can be treats combined with verbal praise and patting.
Do not reward unwanted behavior. For example there are ways to train your dog not to bark if you need him to be quiet. We will be happy to give you some tips when you purchase your morkie from us.
If your dog does something you want him to do, such as going to his bed than praise him. Encourage him to go to his bed or matt again and again and each time he does this praise him. And this applies to everything, coming, sitting ect. Dogs naturally look for a leader to lead them. When your dog feels he has a strong lead then he feels he can relax and doesn't have to work so hard. The most important thing you can do for your dog is to become your puppy’s pack leader. In order for your puppy to grow into a healthy, well balanced dog, you must demonstrate you are the lead dog leadership from the first day you bring your puppy home with you. Cesar Milan stresses that one of the most important components of your daily training is when you exercise your dog. However make sure that your puppy has completed all his vaccines and they are up to date before you take your dog in public to parks where other dogs are. Walking position matters. Walking in front allows you to be seen as the pack leader. If you allow your dog to lead you by walking in front of you than he will perceive himself as the pack leader. You should be the first one out the door and the first one in. Your dog should be beside or behind you during the walk.
We can tell you what kind of leash to buy when you walk your dog. Some are ineffective and you lose control of your dog. Always keep your dog's safety in mind when giving corrections.
SITTING and COMING: There are ineffective and effective ways to make your dog sit and come.
